How can I use the gears api's to retrieve latitude and longitude when I have cellid, lac, mnc and mcc with me. The following is the link from google/apis but I could not find any sample which can help me.

Thanks Paul,

As far as I know offline storage with Flash has been available for a while - I posted a slightly different take about offline web apps on my work blog a while back: Internet Free Web Applications. There's a good video link about Gears and the Dojo Offline project from there too.

I think it's still important for people that rely on Wireless connections, and for more "critical" business applications where losing data would prevent or slow down adoption. It also lets applications that rely on data that isn't time sensitive become more responsive; so queries can be done on the client machine (obviously not all applications are suitable for that!).

I've nearly finished part two (had a busy week!), but it should be up early next week. I've also got a list of some of the alternatives to Gears in that post...

Nice intro David, now I'm waiting patiently for part II.

I do wonder why something like this wasn't done before. In fact I think Gears is a lot less important now with the great availablility of broadband. If I had this when Eirom used to limit me to 20 hours per month on the net, it would have been a life saver.

Now if only I could think of a great idea for an application both off and online.
